Welcome to Clare’s ELT Compendium and thank you for your visit!

  • Are you an English language teacher, tutor or trainer?
  • Do you wish you had easier access to and/or more time to read the latest publications and research reports on language teaching practices?
  • Do you ever wonder how applied linguistics and language acquisition research can translate into effective  ELT activities and materials?
  • Then you are absolutely in the right place!

On my blog, you will find lots of different types of posts related to ELT: book reviews, continued professional development tips, self-reflections, or opinion-pieces on contraversial topics. Most importantly, though, you can join my attempt to bridge the gap between research and classroom practice, as you will find readable summaries of relevant, up-to-date research studies as well as materials and lesson or activity ideas which apply the new pedagogical insights in practical ways!

I started the blog so that I can share my passion for so many different aspects of English language teaching and engage with colleagues beyond my immediate teaching context. I am brimming over with enthusiasm for language education, and excited about sharing ideas and reflecting on our experiences and professional practices as ELT teachers and writers. I believe that all teaching and training should have a sound pedagogical underpinning, based on relevant research findings, and aim to provide this kind of lesson plans and materials here. One day, I hope that the gap between research and the classroom will be closed, with teachers themselves engaging in and publishing research into good pedagogical practice! Until then, though, I will use ClaresELTCompendium to keep building bridges, and hope that I can encourage more teachers, materials writers, and researchers to start crossing them!

Please click ‘Follow’ below to keep up-to-date with my posts, and feel free to share the link http://www.ClaresELTCompendium.wordpress.com with your friends, family and colleagues! Also, don’t hesitate to get in touch if there’s something you’d like to see on here!

For now, I wish you happy reading, and hope that you leave the site feeling informed and inspired! And if you’d like to hear more from me, you can find me on Twitter under @Clare2ELT

  1. Hi Clare, I’ve just discovered your blog through the interview that you gave on ELT rants, Reviews, and Reflections. I’m happy to have found another blogger working in this field, and especially one based in Germany, as most of my customers are based there. I look forward to reading your articles.
